Soloway Strong Jump Shifts is first response (by an unpassed hand) in uncontested auction to show a very strong hand of 17+ Total Points.
Responder may have FIT with the opening hand but in Soloway jump shift, showing a very strong hand takes priority. If necessary, responder’s 2nd bid shows support to opening bid.
Strong jump shifts are responses at level 2 of a higher strain suit on opening bid at level 1.

Jump to a lower strain suit is 2 over 1 forcing
Jumps to a lower strain suit on the 3 level are natural and invitational, as usual.
These are 17+ Total Points hands with any of the following characteristics:
- 8+ Quality long 5+ or 6+ cards suit in a hand with 17+ total points and 4+ controls (assign A=2 points and K=1 point means 2 Aces or 1 Ace+2 Kings in responder’s hand)
- Solid (with top honours) 4+ suit in a hand with 17+ total points and 4+ controls.
- Long suit with 18+ HCP and 4+ controls. Hand configuration 5332 or 6322.
Opener’s 2nd bid over Soloway Jump
- Opener can rebid his own suit to show 6+ Cards.
- Raise responder’s suit to confirm FIT.
- Bid 4NT for Slam Investigation under 3014 RKBC on responder’s suit. Confirming FIT.
- Bid a side suit to deny support. 4+ cards side suit must have at least KQ in the suit.
- Bid NT at the cheapest level to show any other hand.
Responder’s 2nd bid
- Raise 1st response by a level to show long suit with 8+ Suit Quality or may even jump to game.
- With lesser Suit Quality but 18+ TP, No Trump game.
- Raise opener’s suit. To show a strong hand, responder first jump shift his long suit. He didn’t show support to opening bid in his 1st bid.
